How I Improved My Golf Betting Results by Changing My Approach

So, I’d love to tell you that betting on golf has always been smooth sailing for me. I’d love to tell you that I’ve never gone through a stretch where I felt like the world was stacked against me.

But do you want me to sit here telling you a bunch of lies, or do you want to hear the real story?

Over the past year, I’ve quietly turned myself into a small winner while betting golf tournaments. It wasn’t always like so, and I’ve had to learn a few lessons along the way- some hard and some expensive.

But if I didn’t experience what I did, I probably wouldn’t be sitting where I am today. I get the privilege of writing about golf betting from the perspective of someone who understands how to properly attack PGA Tour events.

And I want you to follow this blog closely.

You don’t have to make the same silly mistakes I have made in the past, because I am going to tell you how foolish some of my past strategies were.

If you want to make money betting on golf, start by not trying to be bold- and stop betting on longshots.

I’ll get into this a bit more in a detailed section below, but let me quickly brief you on how I came to the conclusion of all of my thoughts in the first place.

Not Seeing the Results

Are you betting golf tournaments just to have a good time and spice up the action? Or are you really trying to turn a profit?

Because if you are the type of sports bettor who just likes placing wagers on your favorite golfers to win an event, you’ll run out of betting funds quickly.

I know the feeling, as I used to scope the betting sheets at the various Vegas casinos all the time.I’d pick a couple golfers who I thought had a chance to win, only to walk away empty-handed Sunday evenings time and time again.

I was checking the lines at various properties on the Strip, always making sure I got the best prices. So why wasn’t my process working out?

It’s because I wasn’t betting intelligently. I wasn’t betting with my brain.

I got too caught up with trying to hit on these 40-to-1 longshots rather than placing wagers that had actual promise. Sure, sometimes it made for a fun sweat if one of my picks was in contention on the back nine on Sunday.

But I can assure you that over the long run, I lost money betting on individual players to win.

It took some upsetting times and painful hits to my wallet, but I finally came to the realization that if I wanted to keep betting golf tournaments, I needed to find another way.
Finding the Online Sports Betting Sites

Growing up and living in Las Vegas, Nevada, I guess I had always been in a “bubble,” if you will. I never really thought much about how others went about betting golf tournaments.

Since I could always go to any of the casinos and just grab a betting sheet, look at the odds, and place my bets, I never concerned myself with what those who didn’t reside in Sin City did when it came to wagering on PGA Tour events.

But then through word of mouth, I found out about a new and more eventful way to approach golf tournaments.

That’s when I started experimenting with all the online sports betting sites available.

There are options for individuals from all regions of the world to participate in online betting, so it’s no wonder that people have fallen in love with betting sports on the internet.

Want to know the best part about online betting?

When I bet online as opposed to at the casino, I have so many more betting opportunities that it’s hard to even describe.

See, I come from the time when the only odds available for a golf tournament were to pick a winner.

Eventually, the sportsbooks in Vegas started adding a few matchups each week, sometimes even sprinkling in the occasional prop bet.

But flip the script and look at what sites like Bovada.lv and SportsBetting.ag have to offer each and every tournament.

Just last week, I was sifting through over 40 matchups to choose from, and that doesn’t even include the abundance of prop bets the sites come up with.

It might not be as exciting to grind out the head-to-heads, but I realized that I needed to do so if I wanted to survive.

Making the Transition

So there I was.

After spending years trying to chase down winners at the Vegas casinos, it finally hit me.

I didn’t want to admit that I was losing money picking individual golfers to win, but it was the cold, hard truth.

The reality was, I needed to make a change if I wanted to be able to continue betting.

Once I realized how easy and fun it was online, I never turned back.

Not only is the selection of bets much better and more expansive, but the convenience and speed at which I’m able to place and collect bets are top notch.

When I used to want to shop my lines, I had to go back and forth between the casinos on the Strip just to identify who had the most attractive prices.

I’d then sit at a table, generally pleading for a free beverage, and comb through the various pieces of paper. Ultimately, I’d have to drive back to the property that had the most appealing odds to ensure I wasn’t on the shortend of the stick.

Sometimes I even had to make bets at multiple places in order to guarantee I was locking in the most optimal price for each player.

But this is 2018 now, and that procedure is somewhat ancient.

Today, I open up my browser and pull up the prices from all the top sites, and it takes me just a few minutes to quickly scan over them and figure out where the best prices are.

Instead of spending my time trying to figure out where the most lucrative odds are, I can now spend my time on what’s important- like doing my homework on the golfers and the course at hand!

Bet the Head-to-Head Matchups

Once you discover the world of betting golf tournaments on the best sports betting sites, you’ll be doing the same thing as me.

Why place bets that have an extremely low likelihood of paying off when you can just grind out the matchups? In terms of steadily producing positive results, this is by far and away the best chance you’ll have.

I can confidently say that because I have been solely focusing on the matchups for more than 6 months now, and I’ll tell you this.

I’m not on my couch on Sundays ripping up betting tickets anymore, muttering not-so-nice things to myself. I’m on my couch enjoying the golf tournaments because I know I’ve already put the necessary work in ahead of time.

Once I lock into my matchups in advance of Thursday morning’s opening tee times, I can sit back, relax, and just take it all in.

At the end of the week, I can log into my account and see how it all adds up. More often than not, I find myself positively treading above water, watching my account slowly grow over time.

Wrapping It Up

You can do the same thing, too!

You just have to go about betting the golf tournaments more intelligently. Hopefully my story of how I came to find that out helps you get there quicker and less painfully than I did.

Just remember this.

Stick to betting online, and avoid betting longshots to win the golf tournament. Start with those two things, and you’ll be well ahead of the curve!
